"Liars, Guns and Money, Part 3: Plan B"

John Crichton had left us a message: He said he had grown unable to deal with the Scorpius Neural Clone in his brain and had decided he had no choice but to turn himself over to Scorpius to have the wormhole data removed. Crichton hoped this act would somehow bring some good to the crew by leading to the release of Jothee, reuniting Ka D'Argo with his son. Scorpius did release Jothee, but there were those among the crew who thought the cost too great. Crichton had long been a significant member of our crew, and Moya and I, as well as Aeryn Sun and the rest of the crew, found it difficult to imagine going on without him.

Officer Sun, deciding it would be foolish not to take advantage of the band of mercenaries they'd assembled, told the hired soldiers that the goal had changed but the plan had not. What had begun as a rescue mission for Jothee would still be a rescue mission — for Crichton. She promised the mercenaries enough wealth from the Shadow Depository to make them all rich, and we hoped that that would be sufficient enticement to retain their cooperation.

Meanwhile, Moya was still in great pain from the ignited drexan vapor that had burned and wounded nearly a ninth of her total body mass. Though it had been the only way to rid the ship of the Karack Metallites, the cost to Moya and the agony she felt were almost beyond description. We tried to present a brave front to the crew, but Zhaan and the others sensed our pain.

Fortunately for Moya, her offspring Talyn sensed her pain from across a great distance, and came to share nutrients from his own physiology to help heal his mother.

At the Shadow Depository, Scorpius and Natira tortured Crichton, preparing him for the removal of the Neural Chip that contained his mind's wormhole data. On Moya, Aeryn asked former Peacekeeper Captain Bialar Crais, who now commanded Talyn, to help rescue Crichton, but it seemed Crais had put his warfaring days behind him. He refused, saying he would not allow Talyn to be party to violence. Moya and I would never admit it, knowing what was at stake, but Moya was very pleased that her son would not be used for war.

Aeryn set out to execute her plan, with the help of Stark and his blueprints of the Depository. All the mercenaries were in place and ready to proceed with the rescue, when Rorf, the Vorcarian Bloodtracker, was captured and interrogated by Scorpius.

With Scorpius now aware of the plan, it seemed all was lost. Zhaan, Stark and Turak, the Sheyang — unaware of Rorf's confession — continued on their mission to take out the Depository's generator ... and found themselves walking into an ambush.

Crichton remained chained and at Natira's mercy, while the rest of the crew in the Depository met Scorpius' resistance at every step. With Moya so weakened and Crais unwilling to use violence to help us, it seemed that no amount of lying, guns or Borinium ingots could save Crichton and the crew....
