"Eat Me"

I'm still not sure why Jool's mishandling of the controls caused such catastrophic damage to the Transport Pod in which she, Crichton, D'Argo, and Chiana were flying. What matters is that they managed to steer the crippled pod toward a Leviathan — and were shocked to realize that it was not Moya. It was a completely different ship, restrained by a Peacekeeper Control Collar. With the pod quickly losing power, Crichton insisted they enter this strange Leviathan. Steeled to face Peacekeepers there, the four were instead attacked by a pack of ravenous, feral humanoids.

After fighting off these beasts, Crichton and D'Argo went to scavenge the narium coils and threekay wire they needed for repairs, leaving Chiana and Jool at the pod. In the abandoned corridors, they encountered more of the strange creatures, as well as the dreadful sights and smells of a dying, decaying Leviathan, but no explanation for what had happened to the ship. At the pod, Chiana set out to find another replacement part, leaving Jool to keep a dark, lonely vigil armed only with a Pulse Rifle she did not know how to use.

The perversion Crichton next discovered sickens me beyond telling. It was the Leviathan's Pilot, utterly traumatized, missing several arms. The feral creatures were eating the regenerable limbs as quickly as they grew. Worse, the Pilot was not the victim of mere unthinking animals: A sentient being was behind this cruelty. This fiend's name was Kaarvok, and, before Crichton and Chiana's horrified eyes, he killed D'Argo and sucked out the Luxan's brain.

Aeryn, Rygel, Stark and I knew nothing of this. To our surprise, Moya had unexpectedly entered Starburst. However, she seldom takes such initiative without cause, and upon emerging from Starburst we found Talyn drifting before us. Aeryn explored the severely injured ship and found Captain Crais aboard, unconscious. Apparently, another ship had battered Talyn — a sobering thought, given Talyn's considerable firepower. Though Rygel wanted to flee before the attacker returned, the rest of us supported Moya's wish to stay and care for her wounded offspring.

On the dying Leviathan, Crichton and Chiana solemnly burned D'Argo's body. Then, calmed by Crichton, the wounded ship's Pilot explained that this Leviathan, Rovhu, was a prison ship assigned to the transfer of Kaarvok, who was criminally insane. When the ship was attacked by Scarrans and left to drift, Kaarvok escaped and made Rovhu his. Since then, he had allowed his mysterious creatures — the Xarai — to feed on Rovhu and Rohvu's Pilot. Kaarvok himself had more...exotic tastes.

Kaarvok's next assault took Crichton and Chiana by surprise. Leaving Crichton unconscious, Kaarvok hunted down the fleeing Chiana. When Crichton awoke, he found the Xarai feasting upon Chiana's corpse. In despair, he could only assume Jool was dead, as well — and that he was next.

I am almost glad that Moya and I did not know of these events while we attended Talyn. Though I doubt Moya would have abandoned her own offspring to help an unknown Leviathan and Pilot, facing such a decision would have been wrenching for us both. Even now, we ache to think of their pain, and it chills me to realize that we encountered two brutalized Leviathans in one solar day. I do not like to think that cruelty of such magnitude may be so commonplace.
