Journey Logs

"Incubator"

While Crichton had Moya flying mundane search patterns in order to pinpoint wormhole-related deep-space variances — Moya actually enjoyed this activity — the monotony was disrupted by the sudden arrival of a Peacekeeper Prowler.

Our initial alarm abated when we learned that a non-hostile Relgarian was piloting the craft. Relgarians are a peaceful, inquisitive race, and many of them have journeyed aboard Leviathans on deep-space explorations.

This particular Relgarian, Linfer, brought information that could change all our lives.

Linfer had defected from a Peacekeeper wormhole research project. To our dismay, she told us that Scorpius had not perished as we'd thought. Instead, he was leading Peacekeeper efforts to develop wormhole technology, using the equations he had extracted from Crichton's brain with his insidious neurochip.

Linfer proudly explained that she had recently discovered the correct phase progression for safe wormhole travel. While other members of the PK team, including Scorpius, fretted that certain encrypted equations might yet hold vital information, Linfer seized the chance to pilot a test flight herself — and made her escape with their only working prototype.

She had come to offer us a deal: She would give Crichton the secret to wormhole travel, allowing everyone aboard to journey wherever they wished. All she asked in exchange was Moya.

Moya and I were not unwilling to consider this. Exploring the far reaches of space with a kindred spirit and abandoning this confused existence appealed to us. But the decision was not ours alone, and I was touched when D'Argo and Chiana worried that Linfer might endanger me and Moya. Nonetheless, I expected that everyone would eventually accept Linfer's offer. Its benefits were too significant to refuse.

But sadly, as Crichton says, deals like this, which sound too good to be true, usually are. And if one of Scorpius' researchers could track us so easily, how safe would we be if Scorpius himself decided we could be of further use to his efforts?
