"Rhapsody in Blue"

Recently, the entire crew experienced strange dreams recalling powerful emotional bonds from their pasts. Even Moya herself was not immune, imagining she heard the distress cry of another pregnant Leviathan and, without any warning, setting off in Starburst to the imaginary being's rescue.

Upon arrival, however, we discovered no pregnant Leviathan. We had, in fact, all been deceived by a small collection of Zhaan's people: Delvian missionaries who had sequestered themselves on a remote planetoid which they dubbed the New Moon of Delvia.

Fleeing their home to follow the spiritual teachings of their sage, Tuzak, this isolated group sought wisdom and strength to oppose the corrupt Delvian regime that, with the aid of the Peacekeepers, had seized control of Delvia.

But something went wrong with their spiritual quest. Trying to learn too much too quickly, these missionaries lacked the discipline needed to handle their newfound power. Tuzak was the first to succumb to his dark impulses, and he went insane. Now the rest, led by his ambitious daughter, Tahleen, were in danger of falling prey to that same fate.

Unlike her fellow priests, Zhaan had taught herself a way to harness the strength of her violent nature while still maintaining her sanity. Desperate to learn this talent, Tahleen convinced Zhaan to join her in Unity, a bond in which their souls would merge and real knowledge could be shared.

Sharing was not Tahleen's style, however. She betrayed Zhaan, stealing more knowledge than our crewmate was willing to give. Zhaan severed the Unity, but not before Tahleen had ripped away Zhaan's ability to manage the dark impulses raging in her soul. Zhaan, still adjusting from her difficult encounter with Maldis (see "That Old Black Magic"), was now exposed to all the anger that she had so recently struggled to quell.

The rest of the crew sensed something was wrong, but before they could help Zhaan, two of Tahleen's students, Lorana and Hasko, used their powers to manipulate them, clouding the crew's thoughts with twisted hallucinations. Crichton resisted their deceptions especially valiantly, but eventually he succumbed when Lorana convinced him that she was, in fact, his last earthly love, Alexandra.

Unless the others could break free of their own inner struggles and come to Zhaan's aid, our Delvian shipmate seemed lost, destined either to fall prey to Tahleen's ruthless schemes — or to her own, reawakened thirst for deadly vengeance....
