PIVOTAL EPISODES: PRODUCERS' COMMENTARIES

The Locket

· Keep In Mind ... from Rockne S. O'Bannon, series creator

We view "romance" and "love" on Farscape in much same the way we view everything else: standing on our heads and wearing those novelty glasses where the eyeballs dangle out on springs. In other words, as outrageous and alien as possible.

The suggestion of a John/Aeryn attraction was evident as early as the "Premiere" episode. I wrote it in, knowing I was totally prepared to leave it on the back-burner if the chemistry between the two actors didn't gel. No problem there. Ben and Claudia sparked from the first few moments on screen.

One of humankind's strongest desires is to discover your life mate. In the case of John Crichton, I was always drawn to the idea that to find true love, perhaps he had to travel a distance no man ever has before. I believe "The Locket" presents that notion better than any of our other episodes.
