  • The End of Resident Alien

When a show you enjoy watching ends, it leaves a hole in your soul. Over the years I have seen many good shows come and go. I’ve always felt real hesitant about starting new shows, I fear that they will end in only one season or maybe two and never have closure. Various shows have before their time, FarScape being one of them. Half the shows that premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel (I REFUSE TO CALL IT SYFY) always have a low success rate, even when ratings are solid. Networks always want more more more, if a show doesn’t grow to expectations they kick them to the curb. This has always annoyed me. It’s like when you really get into a story and fall in love with the characters, BAM, the floor is torn from below your feet and you’re impaled by the sharp spikes of Network Executives.

The moment I watched the first episode of Resident Alien I was hooked. The idea of an alien being crashing to Earth to kill everyone, but finding his humanity along the way instead. It’s really a brilliant premise (that I didn’t know was a comic first! I started reading the comics…). Anyway….The cast of the show hit the mark perfectly, especially with Alan Tudyk taking lead as the alien. I was very sad to learn of the show’s cancellation. Since today’s standard is streaming services, broadcast television is a thing of the past. Time slots for shows shift around trying to find the audience, while the ratings take a dive, because no one knows when something will come on at what time (looking at you Sci-Fi/USA). Then taking the new episode of something and having it take a week to go onto streaming services. Why not broadcast and stream at the same time? Networks are stupid, and Resident Alien will rise again! Harry Vanderspeigle is not finished here mister man! He will have to come back for more pie!
