SYKARANS
[ SYKARANS ] At first, Crichton thought the Sykarans were Sebaceans, but Aeryn -- disdainful that Sykarans appeared to be nothing more than "common laborers" -- insisted that they were, at best, a "distant cousin" species. They looked Sebacean, though their skins were leathery and red-tanned from too many hours spent harvesting the Tannot root under the harsh Sykaran sun.

Volmae, leader of Sykar, had an unusually whitish and translucent skin. Perhaps this is the normal appearance of Sykarans who do not spend all their days in the Tannot fields. (Why Volmae's speech was so unlike that of other Sykarans, Crichton refuses to speculate.)

Another lifeform found on Sykar is the worm -- a creature which burrows under the flesh and into the digestive tract, as Crichton so painfully found out. The worm's effects, however, are actually beneficial; it eats the toxin found in the Tannot root (from which all food on Sykar is derived) and hence frees its host from the root's psychology-altering, conformity-enforcing, artificial-happiness effects.

NAMTAR
[ NAMTAR ] NamTar was, in my opinion, the most evil being we have yet encountered. I am still so discomfited by the entire episode that I can say little more. What he did to Officer Sun -- as well as the desperation he brought out in Zhaan, D'Argo, and Rygel -- troubles me to such a great extent that I actually find myself hoping that his torment will continue without end.

I am ashamed of these feelings, as it is difficult for me to bear ill will toward any sentient creature... yet I cannot help taking pleasure in NamTar's fate. My revulsion toward his behavior is only slightly mitigated by the fact that his actions have inadvertently increased the unusual bond of empathy that Officer Sun and I share.
